Visit of Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC, to Chad

Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, embarked on a visit to Chad, one of the Sahel countries which is facing a complex crisis, to visit humanitarian projects. She went to Goz Beida where she visited the feeding centre for children managed by MSF. She then met with Sudanese refugees and Chadian displaced persons accommodated in a camp in Tissi. Finally, she visited the project managed by the NGOs Alima and Alerte Santé, put in place to respond to the problems of severe acute malnutrition of children below the age of 5.
On this occasion, Kristalina Georgieva announced that the EC increased its support with an additional €69 million to respond to growing humanitarian needs in the Sahel region of Africa. The new funds will provide food assistance, clean water and access to basic health services to women and children suffering from hunger and food insecurity. It will also help vulnerable people affected by the conflict in Mali as well as refugees in Chad fleeing conflict in neighbouring countries.
