Visit of José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to Italy

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Rome, where he met with Giorgio Napolitano, President of Italy, to discuss two critical points of national and European agendas: tackling the economic crisis and fighting unemployment, in particular youth unemployment.
On 15/06/2013 he then met with Pope Francis in the Holy See/Vatican City State, and Enrico Letta, Italian Prime Minister, in Rome. José Manuel Barroso also received on behalf of the EU the "Jacques Diouf" Award of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), from the hands of José Graziano da Silva, Director-General of the FAO. The award was given in recognition of the pioneering work of the EU's Food Facility programme, which had so far improved the lives of more than 59 million people in 50 countries.
