Visit of Tonio Borg, Member of the EC, to China

Tonio Borg, Member of the EC in charge of Health and Consumer Policy, made a visit to China from 3 to 8 June. He first went to Shanghai where he visited the Chinese Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, in charge of the protection of consumers. He also visited the laboratory that is used to check whether the toys made in China, but for the European market comply with the essential requirements of the European directives. He then visited the laboratory responsible for the control of alcohol and cosmetics. The next day he went to Beijing where he attended a high level meeting with the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ). He also visited the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The next day he went to the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), where he signed an amendment to the Memorandum between the CFDA and the EC.
