Visit of José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to Kazakhstan

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Astana where he met with Alexei Volkov, Kazakh Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. The President then visited the EADS Company "Eurocopter" and met with Nurlan Nigmatullin, Speaker of the the Majilis (Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament). José Manuel Barroso also received the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU). He made a speech entitled "European Union and Kazakhstan: Forging a partnership for the 21st century" on this occasion.
The President then met with Akhmetov Serik Nygmetovich, Kazakh Prime Minister. It was the first official visit of José Manuel Barroso to Kazakhstan.
