EU High Level Conference on Education and Development

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, and Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, participated in the EU High Level Conference on Education and Development. Laurentien, Princess of the Netherlands, and Gordon Brown, UN Special Envoy on Global Education, were also present.
The EC announced that at least 20% of the 2014-2020 aid budget was foreseen for human development and social inclusion, education being a main component of it. As much as €2.5 billion would be mobilised for education, confirming it as a priority for EU development post-2015. At least €1.5 billion would go to the future "Erasmus for All" programme.
