Brussels European Council, 22/05/13

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, and the Heads of State or Government of the EU met in Brussels for the European Council hosted by Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council.
Discussions focused on energy policy and tax evasion and fraud. On both issues the leaders knew what they had to do, most of the proposals were already on the table. But the pace of implementation had been too slow. What was needed was the political will to act at the European level, and this European Council had been important in that respect.
