Donor Conference for development in Mali

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, and Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, participated in the Donor Conference for development in Mali entitled "Together for a New Mali" with ten Heads of African States and more than 100 worldwide delegations.
The conference expressed its support for Mali's recovery strategy, and the financial commitments of the international community amount up to 3.25 billion euros. The EU allocated €1.35 billion to Mali, of which €523.9 million from the EC. In the margins of the event, the EC signed four financing agreements with the government of Mali, regarding water supply and support to the administration of the country, for a total of 300 million euros. The European Commission also signed a 15 million euros agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support the organisation of credible, inclusive and transparent presidential and legislative elections, which was the priority number one of the Mali Transitions Roadmap.
The final joint press conference was held by Dioncounda Traoré, President of Mali ad interim, François Hollande, President of the French Republic, and José Manuel Barroso.
