A few days before the Europe day, the European institutions located in Brussels organised an Open Doors Day on Saturday 4 May. The EC, represented by Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, opened its headquarters, the "Berlaymont" building, to the public.
Citizens were able to go behind the scenes in the Berlaymont building where the 27 Commissioners go about their daily work. A number of activities and exhibitions gave citizens the opportunity to learn more about what the European Union was and how it impacted upon their daily lives.
