Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, and Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, participated in the numerous spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which were held in Washington from 19 to 21 April 2013. These meetings focused on the global economy and international development.
Kristalina Geogieva put the stress on key challenges which are high on her agenda at the EC: disaster response and the ways to boost the resilience of the most vulnerable communities at home and abroad. She also participated in a round-table meeting which brought together Political Champions for Global Resilience.
Andris Piebalgs participated in the Learning for All Ministerial Roundtable, as well as the meeting of the Ministerial Dialogue on Sustainable Development. Finally, together with Olli Rehn, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the EU to further enhance their cooperation, with the aim of improving the economic and social development of the Latin American and Caribbean countries.
