Visit of Fatma Şahin, Turkish Minister for Family and Social Policies, to the EC, and dance performance in the framework of the "One Billion Rising" campaign

Štefan Füle, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, received Fatma Şahin, Turkish Minister for Family and Social Policies.
Štefan Füle stressed the importance that the Commission and the EU give to the promotion of women's rights and gender equality in the Member States and partner countries, particularly in the candidate countries for accession to the EU and in countries aspiring to EU membership. He praised the initiatives that Fatma Şahin has taken during her mandate, including the adoption of the Law for the Protection of the Family and Prevention of Violence in March of last year. After the meeting, they participated together in a dance performance organised in the EC building by the Turkish platform "Connexion" and the European Women's Lobby in the framework of the "One billion rising" campaign in order to raise awareness of violence against women.
