European Parliamentary Week on the European Semester for Economic Policy Coordination

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Inter-Institutional Relations and Administration, Olli Rehn, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro, Janusz Lewandowski, Member of the EC in charge of Financial Programming and Budget, and László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, participated in the European Parliamentary Week on the European Semester for Economic Policy Coordination with Martin Schulz, President of the EP, and Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council.
During the opening session José Manuel Barroso highlighted that stronger measures to fight unemployment, notably youth unemployment, had to be taken. He added that they were still on time to address the issue in the discussion for the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2014-2020 that was essential for investments supporting growth, competitiveness and job creation.
The President also emphasised that the EU budget offered even to the strongest Member States a European dimension to their economic growth, their infrastructure and Research.
