Visit of Bidzina Ivanishvili, Georgian Prime Minister, to the EC

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Štefan Füle, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, received Bidzina Ivanishvili, Georgian Prime Minister.
During the joint press conference the President said that Georgia was a key member of the Eastern Partnership and highlighted that the EU was keen in bringing the country closer to Europe. The best way to achieve this was to conclude negotiations on an Association Agreement, including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. José Manuel Barroso then add that both he and the Prime Minister hoped that the negotiations could be finalised in time for the 2013 Eastern Partnership Summit.
Finally the President underlined the EU's commitment to Georgia’s territorial integrity. Through the Geneva International Discussions and the Monitoring Mission, the EU played an important role in guaranteeing Georgia’s security.
