"The State of Europe" conference

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Joaquín Almunia, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Competition, Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Karel De Gucht, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, and László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, participated in "The State of Europe" conference organized by Friends of Europe and chaired by Etienne Davignon, President of Friends of Europe.
José Manuel Barroso made a speech entitled "Beating the crisis: Could demands for 'fairness' re-landscape EU politics?" on this occasion. He elaborated on the importance of fairness, solidarity and responsibility in the contexts of combating the crisis, the multiannual budget 2014-2020, the Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) and European integration in general.
