Visit of Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC, to Japan

Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, went to Sendai, to the places that had been devastated by an earthquake and a tsunami on 11 March 2011. These natural disasters killed thousands of people. In this context, the Japanese government and the World Bank organized a special conference called "Dialogue of Sendai" on managing natural disaster risk. Kristalina Georgieva presented the new EU strategy on how to best adapt the development assistance and humanitarian aid from the EU in order to strengthen resilience and reduce the vulnerability of people affected by disasters. She then traveled to Tokyo, where she gave a speech at a conference organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
