Visit of José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to Cyprus

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Limassol where he participated in the Informal Ministerial meeting on EU Integrated Maritime Policy with Demetris Christofias, President of Cyprus and President in office of the Council of the EU. José Manuel Barroso made a speech entitled "A strong maritime pillar for the Europe 2020 strategy" on this occasion.
During the press conference which followed he commented on the Brussels European Council of 18-19/10/2012, the start of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and the situation in Cyprus. The President also expressed his satisfaction with the meeting saying that this conference and the Limassol Declaration were as a breakthrough moment on how the EU understood and promoted European Maritime Policy.
The two leaders then opened and visited the "Mare Liberum" exhibition dedicated to the navigation in the Mediterranean Sea between the 16th and 19th century.
