Visit of Catherine Ashton, Vice-President of the EC, to Somalia

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to Somalia where she notably met with Muse Hassan Sheikh Sayid Abdulle, acting President of Somalia and acting Speaker of the Parliament. As Somalia ended its eight-year transition period, this visit underlined the EU's commitment to contributing to better governance, development and security in the country.
The Vice-President urged Somali leaders to act swiftly, decisively with integrity and in the interests of the Somali people. The EC was looking forward to the new Government's work plan, and underlined the urgent need for a mechanism to guarantee the sound use of financial resources.
