Brussels European Council, 28-29/06/2012

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, and the Heads of State or Government of the EU met in Brussels for the European Council hosted by Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council.
In his speech after the last working session José Manuel Barroso outlined three main areas of this Council outcomes: short term measures to support countries under market pressure; full agreement on a compact for growth and jobs that turned words into concrete action and into financing commitments; and reaching of a clear commitment to a banking Union.
Deepening of the Economic and Monetary union (EMU) would continue. Following the report presented by Herman van Rompuy in close cooperation with the Presidents of the EC, the Eurogroup and the European Central Bank (ECB) a specific and time-bound roadmap would be developed taking into account decisions taken during this European Council.
