Maria Damanaki, Member of the EC in charge of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, participated in a debate organised by the EC on issues such as the need for better data and enhanced science as well as better compliance with agreed rules to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Jane Lubchenco, US Under Secretary of Commerce for oceans and atmosphere and Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), took also part in the debate.
