EU/Russia Summit, 04/06/2012

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in the 29th EU/Russia Summit with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, and Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council. Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, and Günther Oettinger, Member of the EC in charge of Energy, were also present.
During the joint press conference José Manuel Barroso highlighted the important progress achieved in past years in key areas of cooperation. An ambitious and comprehensive bilateral New Agreement should become a solid basis for cooperation in the following years and should include substantial provisions on Trade and Investment, including Energy.
The President of the EC concluded saying that Russia was not only the EU's largest neighbour but also a strategic partner with which the EU was building a solid and mutually beneficial relationship.
