Visit of Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC, to Spain

Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, embarked on a visit to Madrid, where he reached an agreement with Cristóbal Montoro Romero, Spanish Minister for Finance and Public Administration, to accelerate payments for the closure of Cohesion Fund projects. This agreement will release up to 939 million euro which can be paid quicker to beneficiaries of environmental and transport projects, already completed. Furthermore the reprogramming of the current Cohesion Policy programmes was discussed in order to bring them in line with the Europe 2020 strategy on growth and jobs.
Johannes Hahn also met with José Manuel Soria, Spanish Minister for Industry, Energy and Tourism, and Carmen Vela Olmo, Spanish Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, to discuss the current and future programming periods.
Finally, Johannes Hahn held a speech at the Forum Europa of the "Foro de la Nueva Economia" on "Cohesion Policy for growth and jobs in the EU".
