Visit of José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to the United States
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to New York where he participated in the opening session of the High Level Thematic Debate of the United Nations General Assembly entitled "The State of the World Economy and Finance", ahead of the G8 Summit in Camp David. The President also met with Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, together with Thomas Mayr-Harting, Head of the Delegation of the EU to the United Nations.
José Manuel Barroso then participated in a meeting of the Forum of Small States (FOSS), to which more than half of the UN Member States belong, notably Singapore represented by Albert Chua, Permanent Representative of Singapore to the United Nations. The President eventually took part in a breakfast meeting with the Ambassadors of the EU Member States.
