Visit of Cecilia Malmström, Member of the EC, to Italy

Cecilia Malmström, Member of the EC in charge of Home Affairs, travelled to Apulia in Southern Italy, in the framework of the new rules presented in March 2012, which aimed for more effective and widespread confiscation of funds and other property acquired through crime. In Apulia, farmlands that were confiscated from the Mafia are now used for agriculture and social projects, creating jobs and opportunities in the local community. Cecilia Malmström visited the cooperative Terre di Puglia – Libera Terra.
