Visit of Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Member of the EC, to United States

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Member of the EC in charge of Research, Innovation and Science, embarked on a visit to the United States from 17 to 21 January 2012. She first went to Bethesda, where she met with Francis S. Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She then left for Washington where she had a discussion with John P. Holdren, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She visited the Cosmos Club where she held a speech, as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), where she met with Jane Lubchenco, US Under Secretary of Commerce for oceans and atmosphere and Administrator of the NOOA. She then went to the US Department of Commerce and the US National Science Foundation (NSF). In Massachusetts, she held a speech at the conference "Destination Europe", and she later visited the Harvard innovation lab, the MIT Media Lab as well as European Career Fair in Cambridge, organised by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
