"Together to create new growth: Promoting Social entrepreneurship in Europe" conference

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Michel Barnier, Member of the EC in charge of Internal Market and Services, and László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, participated as panellists in the Social Business Initiative Conference entitled "Together to create new growth: Promoting Social entrepreneurship in Europe".
The President addressed the role of social business in building responsible and sustainable growth. In his speech, he pointed out that social enterprises were not only seeking to include people or to share profits more fairly, but that they also created jobs.
José Manuel Barroso underlined that action at EU level could be an accelerator for social business, by raising awareness of this sector and its huge potential. He added that social businesses were a growing and dynamic part of the European social economy, which represented millions of employees. The President eventually said that the EU could help to foster the sector's further development by reducing the complexities of its regulatory environment, in particular, as regards funding and access to markets.
