Informal Brussels European Council and Euro Summit, 26/10/11

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and the Heads of State or Government of the EU met in Brussels for the European Council hosted by Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council. The 18th Euro Summit was held on the same day.
During the joint press conference which followed José Manuel Barroso stated that the package they all had agreed was a comprehensive package that confirmed that Europe would do what it took to safeguard financial stability. In his statement he also thoroughly presented the conclusions leaders have adopted and stressed that at the G20 Summit in Cannes on 03-04/11/2011 the EU would be able to show to its partners in the G20 that Europe was able to reach an agreement to conclude measures to restore confidence in the European banking sector; to ensure the adequate firewalls; to accelerate the ambitious agenda for growth; and further to strengthen economic surveillance and coordination. It was necessary to show the partners and the European citizens that EU were ready to complete the monetary union with a true economic union.
