Joint press conference by José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Janusz Lewandowski, Member of the EC, on the Multiannual Financial Framework

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Janusz Lewandowski, Member of the EC in charge of Budget and Financial Programming, gave a joint press conference on the EC's proposals for the 2014-2020 Multi-Annual Financial Framework. The proposal for a budget for the period 2014 to 2020 has been adopted on the occasion of the weekly College meeting the same day and the first presentation has been made to the EP.
All across Europe, families were prioritising where to spend their money. Some luxuries were being cut, as people invested in what really matters for the future. The EU was doing exactly the same and the EC’s budget proposal invested in growth for tomorrow. Taxpayers would get more for the same amount of money they spend. It would make it a truly European budget; a budget for integration.
The purposes of this Financial Framework were: boosting growth across the EU, making Europe safer, making Europe count in the world, and getting a fairer and more transparent budget.
