Visit of Pedro Passos Coelho, Portuguese Prime Minister, to the EC

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Pedro Passos Coelho, Portuguese Prime Minister, for his first visit to the EC since his nomination as Prime Minister. Ahead of the European Council of 23-24/06/2011, the two leaders discussed the economic situation in the Eurozone. The President expressed his confidence in this new government acknowledging the difficult moments that Portugal was going through.
The Portuguese Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to implement the adjustment programme negotiated with the EC, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). José Manuel Barroso added that the success of Portugal would be the success of Europe.
