Launch of IPCC's Special Report on Renewable Energy sources and Climate change mitigation

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Connie Hedegaard, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action, participated in the launch of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Special Report on Renewable Energy sources and Climate change mitigation (SRREN).
The President made a speech entitled "Thinking like scientists, acting like leaders" on this occasion. He stressed that the world needed to do much better to limit temperature increase to 2°C. José Manuel Barroso added that renewable energy offered Europe a significant tool in doing so and was central to building a new economic model for green growth and jobs. Renewables were neither a luxury nor a distraction but a core business for the EU.
