Participation of Catherine Ashton, Vice-President of the EC, in the opening of the office of the EU mission to Libya

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to Benghazi where she participated in the opening of the office of the EU mission to Libya. The office was located in the Tibesti Hotel which was home to United Nations and international agencies, the EU's Humanitarian Aid Agency ECHO and diplomats from national governments. It aimed to foster EU assistance in coordination with Member States and other international organisations.
On the occasion of this journey, Catherine Ashton also met Mustafa Mohammed Abdul Jalil, Chairman of the National Transitional Council of Libya, and several representatives of the civil society.
