José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs, participated in the Brussels Economic Forum 2011 with Angel Gurría, Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Wolfgang Schäuble, German Federal Minister for Finance.
For the year 2011 the forum focused on "Rethinking economic policy in Europe - A new era of EU economic governance". This 12th edition of the Brussels Economic Forum included sessions on the European Semester with strengthening surveillance of fiscal and macroeconomic imbalances, on implementing the reformed economic governance framework in practice and ensuring its robustness, and on economic policy in Europe with key lessons learned from the global crisis.
José Manuel Barroso highlighted during his speech that thanks to reforms, Europe was better equipped to face challenges and to bring prosperity to all its citizens.
