Participation of Catherine Ashton, Vice-President of the EC, in the Cairo conference on Libya

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, participated in the Cairo conference on Libya for a quartet meeting with the African Union, the United Nations, the Arab League and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC). Those mentionned were respectively represented by Jean Ping, Chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC), Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, and Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the OIC.
The meeting has shown the determination of key international organizations to bring about a quick and satisfactory end to the Libyan crisis. This journey to Cairo was also the occasion for Catherine Ashton to meet Nabil Elaraby, Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs.
