Visit of José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to Geneva

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Geneva where he participated in the Annual Memorial Lecture Sergio Vieira de Mello. The President delivered the 2011 Annual Lecture entitled "On the road to democracy - a European perspective" and which aimed to paid a tribute to Sergio Vieira de Mello, former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, who died in Baghdad in 2003.
José Manuel Barroso reaffirmed the support of Europe to democracy. Annie Vieira de Mello, widow of Sergio Vieira de Mello and Vice-Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Foundation, attended the conference. The event was also an occasion to give the "Sergio Vieira de Mello Award" 2011 to Martina Pignatti Morano, Project Manager of "Un ponte per ...".
