Participation of Algirdas Šemeta, Member of the EC, at the Brussels Tax Forum 2011

Algirdas Šemeta, Member of the EC in charge of Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud, participated in the Brussels Tax Forum 2011 where he made a speech entitled "Setting out the tax agenda for a fairer contribution of the financial sector".
The Brussels Tax Forum is an annual conference that brings together policy makers, experts, stakeholders and the general public from all over the world to discuss tax issues of particular political and general interest.
The topic chosen for 2011 was "Taxation of the Financial Sector". The conference focused on whether increased or new taxes on the financial sector could help with correcting risk related behaviour and with the significant efforts for fiscal consolidation required in many Member States.
