Award of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Ghent to José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received the award of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Ghent (UGent) from the hands of Paul van Cauwenberge and Luc Moens, respectively Rector and Vice-Rector of the UGent. The President made a speech entitled "Dare to think and dare to act for a brighter European future".
It is a tradition for this University to award the honorary degrees at the occasion of the Dies Natalis of Ghent University. These awards honoured people who demonstrated exceptional merit, usually in their collaboration with the UGent, in matters like university education, academic research or social or academic service. Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, also received this award during the same ceremony.
