Visit of Catherine Ashton, Vice-President of the EC, to Egypt
Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to Egypt where she met with the representatives of transitional leadership and the government, members of the opposition and civil society, including representatives of youth and women' associations.
The Vice-President has had the opportunity to meet Ahmed Shafik, Egyptian Prime Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the League of Arab States. Discussions notably focused on the events in Lybia. Catherine Ashton also highlighted the courage of Egyptian people in their peaceful and dignified mobilisation to bring democracy and improve opportunities in their country.
