Visit of Catherine Ashton, Vice-President of the EC, to New York

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to New York.
On the first day Catherine Ashton participated in the 6477th meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council where she made a speech saying that the European External Action Service (EEAS), one of the Lisbon Treaty's main innovations, was up and running since January, 1 2011. This implementation made EU a better partner for the UN. The speech also focused on the situation in Tunisia and Egypt, the conclusions of the European Council of Brussels which was held on February 4, 2011 and on the 47th conference of Munich on security.
During the second day, Catherine Ashton took part in the 15th anniversary of the signature of the Dayton Agreement, hosted by Bill Clinton, United Nations Special Envoy for Haiti. Ivo Josipović, President of Croatia, and Bakir Izetbegović, Bosniak Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, were also present.
