Press conference by Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the EC, on the European Year of Volunteering

Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, gave a press conference on the launch of the communication campaign for the European Year of Volunteering 2011 with the slogan "Volunteer! Make a difference."
The EU was emphasizing the importance of voluntary work as a means of promoting social cohesion and solidarity across Europe in an increasingly competitive and globalised world economy.
Jean-Marc Delizée, Acting Belgian Secretary of State for Social Affairs, in charge of disabled persons, assistant to the Minister for Social Affairs and Public Health, in charge of social integration, and Marian Harkin, Member of the EP, were also present.
