Visit of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, to Lebanon and Syria

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to Beyrouth and Damas, as part of the Middle East tour from 14 and 18 March 2010, in order to open a dialogue between the different actors involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In Beyrouth, Catherine Ashton discussed with Saad Hariri, Lebanese Prime Minister, Ali Hussein Al Shami, Lebanese Minister for Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament. She then went to Damas to meet Bachar el-Assad, President of Syria, and Walid al Muallem, Syrian Minister for Foreign Affairs.
