Visit of Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Member of the EC, to the IRMM

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Member of the EC in charge of Research, Innovation and Science, visited the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) located in Geel, in Belgium. The IRMM validates and develops new or improved testing methods to ensure that results are reliable. It is one of the largest reference-material providers in the world and a provider of neutron data. Its aim is to encourage the use of standards across the EU, for example for testing for contaminants in food, detecting animal infection, identifying genetically modified ingredients or monitoring radioactivity. The IRMM is one of the seven institutes of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the EC.
