Visit of Karel De Gucht, Member of the EC, to Haiti following the violent earthquake

Karel De Gucht, Member of the EC in charge of Development and Humanitarian Aid, went to Haiti, which was hit by a violent earthquake on 12 January. He visited several camps of the disaster victims in Port-au-Prince. In this context, the European institutions and the Member States decided to spend several hundred million euros in Haiti to be allocated first to emergency aid, an then to the long-term reconstruction.
