Biotechnology: the research on the production of biofuels from microalgae

Shamash is an integrated research project involving multidisciplinary teams from the public research and private companies that started in December 2006. The goal of the project is to produce lipidic biofuel from microalgae, in this case spirulina, a microscopic blue-green alga. These micro-organisms are cultivated in closed ponds and photobioreactors in Asserac close to Guerande in France.
