Brussels European Council, 10-11/12/2009

The Heads of State and Government of the EU gathered in Brussels for the last European Council of the Swedish Presidency, which took place a few days after the Lisbon Treaty came into force. During the meeting, the European Council adopted a new multi-annual programme for the years 2010-2014, the Stockholm Programme, which will allow for the further development of an area of freedom, security and justice. The European Council exchanged views on how the EU could best contribute to a successful outcome at the Copenhagen Conference on climate change.
