Opening of the exhibition "Sicco Mansholt"

Mariann Fischer Boel, Member of the EC in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, participated in the opening of the exhibition "Sicco Mansholt", which celebrated the hundredth anniversary of the post of Agriculture Commissioner, in the presence of Gerda Verburg, Dutch Minister for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. The exhibition highlighted the life of Sicco Mansholt, who served as Minister for Agriculture for 13 years. He then became Vice-President of the Commission of the EEC and President of the CEC. He will be remembered as the man responsible for implementing the CAP. He will also be remembered for setting the first reforms (The Mansholt Plan) which prepared the way for future developments in European agriculture.
