Presentation by Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC, of a simulation model illustrating the global warming

On the occasion of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Energy, presented a climate change simulation model, consisting of two 2-meter high ice cubes that are dominating the scale model city and smelting at different speed. The first cube will smelt quickly and flood the cities. This scenario shows the disastrous consequences for the planet due to the lack of measures. The second cube will smelt very slowly. It illustrates the positive effect of the measures advocated by the EC in order to reduce the CO2 emissions and use more effectively energy. In this scenario, the sea level rises but the consequences of it are still manageable to the population.
