EU/Russia Summit, 27/06/2008

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, and Peter Mandelson, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, took part in th EU/Russia Summit. Janez Janša, Slovenian Prime Minister and President in office of the Council, and Javier Solana, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union (CFSP) also represented the EU. Dmitri Medvedev, President of Russia, and Sergueï Lavrov, Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs, were representing Russia. The main subject on the agenda was the launch of a new framework agreement with Russia. This agreement gives the opportunity to update the legal framework on which the relation between the EU and Russia relies, to take into account the substantial changes that Russia and the European Union have been through since the conclusion of the 1st Partnership and Cooperation Agreement at the begin of the 1990s.
