60th anniversary of the Congress of Europe of the European Movement

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the EP, and Janez Janša, Slovenian Prime Minister and President holding offive of the Council, took part in the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Congress of Europe organized by the European Movement. The model of the EU was conceived in 1948 at the Congress of Europe in The Hague. In 2008, Europe is confronted with many challenges and needs new ideas to define its future. Once again, the European Movement meets the challenge and offers ideas for the 21st century Europe. The Congress of Europe 2008 gathered the leaders of the EU's institutions and of European political parties as well as representatives of the European civil society who were able to address preoccupations and advice on the future of Europe to the main leaders of the EU.
