Visit by José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to Turkey

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement, paid an official visit to Turkey, on the invitation of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish Prime Minister. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties between the European Union and Turkey, as well as to build support for reforms that would bring Turkey closer to the EU. José Manuel Barroso gave a speech before the Turkish parliament, and the University of Bilgi. He also had talks with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Abdullah Gül, President of Turkey, Ali Babacan, Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs, and religious chiefs.
