2nd EU/Africa Summit

Seven years have past since the first meeting in Cairo, of the Heads of State and Governments of the European Union and Africa. On 8 and 9 December, Lisbon hosted the 2nd EU/Africa Summit. The twenty-four countries making up the partnership were represented, as well as the regional institutions from the two continents. The summit aimed to take into account the major changes which have occurred since the last summit and which have affected Africa, Europe and the whole world during this time, by launching the foundations of a long-term strategic partnership and by providing the necessary tools for common progress on the major world issues. In addition to the approval of the two documents which structure the new EU/Africa partnership - the Joint Strategy and the Action Plan, the summit focused on five crucial topics for mutual relations: peace and security; democracy and human rights; trade, infrastructure and development; migration; as well as energy and climate change.
