Fires devastated the southern regions of Greece, causing many victims and causing huge damage. Europe reacted promptly to the call for aid from Greece. Fire-fighting aircraft were dispatched to Greece, from France (4), Italy (1) and Spain (2). Specialised helicopters were also made available by Norway (1), Germany (3) and the Netherlands (2). In total, 13 aircraft contributed to the fire-fighting deployed by Greece in unfavourable atmospheric conditions.
