G8 Summit in Heiligendamm

The G8 Summit unites the major industrialised countries of the world - France, The United States, The United Kingdom , Russia, Germany, Japan, Italy and Canada. José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participed in the G8 Summit as a full member. On the subject of climate change; the participants agreed to consider lowering global CO2 emissions by 2050. A new agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol should come into force by 2009 . Other items on the agenda, like aid to Africa, or financial markets did not achieve concrete results.
